James Ritchie

James Ritchie is a New Zealander who has been living in Switzerland since 2012. He is married with 4 children.

Education: BA (Hons) University of Otago, NZ

From 2015- present, James has fulfilled the role of Assistant General Secretary, International Union of Food Workers (IUF) based in Geneva, Switzerland.

As well as general leadership work, James is responsible for the meat, dairy and industrial catering sectors

Between 2012-2015, he was an International Officer for the IUF.

From 2003- 2012 James Ritchie was the National Secretary of the New Zealand Dairy Workers Union.

From 1985 to 2003 he held various positions in the trade union movement in New Zealand including in the NZ Nurses Union, the Trade Union Education Authority and as an Executive member of the NZ Council of Trade Unions (NZCTU)

He also fulfilled governance roles for public authorities in his home country. He served two periods as a Board member for the Waikato District Health Board (regional health authority), 1989-91 and 1999- 2002 and from 1993-97 he was a Council member for the Waikato Polytechnic (tertiary education institution).

Between 2005- 2007 James was an appointee to NZ Government Food and Beverage Taskforce.
